Summer love

I don't know what went wrong
we seemed so happy
always smiling and always laughing
we always had things to say
it just got better day by day
but soon the happiness had to end
the day you said lets just be friends
I knew the distance would keep us apart
but I didn't know it would break my heart
I knew this was gonna happen from the beginning
when you said yes I was losing not winning
because very soon I would get attached
and then you would let me go into your past
this whole thing wouldn't be so hard
if our relationship didn't get so far
but it got to the point where you said those words
words everyone likes to hear
the night you whispered them in my ear
deep inside I knew I wanted you to
but the night you said I love you
I fell in love and believed it was true
and now I lie here and some nights cry
soaking tears fall from my eyes
I felt so stupid and naive
how could I actually believe
that when you said those words to me that you meant them
that I meant to you what you still mean to me
now its over the past is the past
but our summer love will always last
for even though I have moved on
our summer love will never be gone
