I Don't Let It Show

by Monique Seidler   Apr 2, 2006

I watched as my vision
sank before my eyes.
It left me forever;
I didn't realize.
I thought it would return,
it never came back.
It was pushed to the side
and thrown off the track.
It was shoved out of reach
like cobwebs, like rain.
I knew in an instant
there's nothing to gain.
This time I didn't chase,
like past times before.
I watched as it left me,
and crept out the door.
Why did I just sit there?
This I'll never know.
For once in my lifetime,
I just watched it go.
I began not to care
the things people said.
Yes, of course I heard it,
but refused instead.
I thought what's the bother
in caring at all?
They'll do it even more
if they see me fall.
So I stand straight and strong
and I walk on by.
Then when it's over,
I sit and I sigh.
When they see me and laugh,
I often get scared,
but I don't let it show.
I have never dared.
So this is my story.
I hope that you know
when I write a poem
it's from real life aglow.
