How We Runaway

by Once an Angel   Apr 2, 2006

She was desperately in love, in a world entirely looking fine,
Living what was certainly, life's matchless pleasurable design.
Distracted constantly by a stunning pair of emerald green eyes,
Rapped up in an embrace dripping with unseen seductive lies.

Betrayal and loneliness quickly ripped though her delusion,
Throwing her into a reality realm outside her past illusion.
Leaving a child too young to be able to make it though sane,
Her world so perfect, now altered and corrupted by intense pain,

The pain is burning her, consuming her entire soul,
Let her drowned it away, wash it down her empty hole.
How much can she drink, before the happiness sets in?
How much happy juice, does it take to forget she sin?

Dizzy and disoriented, the world spins endlessly before her eyes,
But the memories aren't drowning, they need a new disguise.
A white dust is her new paradise, a new mind distortion.
But as her high begins to die, she falls into dark recall's consumption.

Pills might offer a solution, to her impenetrable equation
Partaking in a counting game, gambling with life for liberation.
How many capsules achieve her goal, one, two, three, four,
Five, six, seven, the numbers sore, ten, twenty, thirty, more.

Wasted away upon a floor, her body sold to pay for her break away,
She has morphed into a stranger, an image the mirror echoes today.
Whispers often follow her, as people laugh at the person they see,
Showing the cost of lonely confusing upon a teenage girl like me.

It's sad to see how quickly our world judges people who are different from themselves. Those who take drugs, are alcoholics, prostitute themselves, ect, when we don't really take any time to understand them and see what horrors they are trying to distract themselves from. Rape, divorce, abuse, peer pressure, loss, just to name a few might see like common place to you, but maybe not everyone else is as strong and able to deal with those things. Maybe their way of coping isn't right, but when the world is so quick to outlaw and label them, where do these people have to do and what do you leave them to turn to? Just a bit of food for thought, not meant as a personal attack on anyone.

I really liked this one. It really made me think. So many people in this world go through so many different things, But everyone handles it differently. Some may turn to drugs and alchohol. And some may just block out the world. And alot of other ways too. But this was a truely good poem, It had a great meaning behind it, That makes the reader actually think. Great job! 5/5
