Lost Love Amongst the Flowers

by Zach Cambria   Apr 3, 2006

I wandered through the streets of Rome one midsummer's day
To see if I might find some love amongst the crowded vendors
But only saw I couples walking hand with holding hand
It seemed as If I were the only one who walked alone, to my dismay

But as I neared a flower stand I noticed more than just the colors
Of kali lilies and carnations,
But behind them I had seen a beauty of only a Gods creation.
Remarkably so I saw that no other stood amongst this brilliant woman
Gleaming in the day,
She stood alone for all to gaze at, her flowing dress and her flickering fan
And here she be just a flower girl, yet from me breath had run away

I stood there immobile in awe of beauty and of loves first holdings,
And she acknowledged me as if shed seen her own true love
As in a tunnel there I stood blocked out from all earths mediocre things
The only thing that here I saw was her.

'Oh love, Oh love, this feeling is in my humble sight
Let me find it in my courage to go and meet this love thats taken me so
Express my feelings to this woman I see amongst the flowers till the end of night!
Of all my inner thoughts I hide, just this once let me let go!'

--I thought this to myself you see, but words are not so simply easy
Still I stared at her, a sight so free--
Yet courage left me long ago.
My last love took my only heart
And so--
I watched in all the same hurt way
As the flower vendor pulled away
