Drowning

by Poetvoices   Apr 3, 2006

The last open space.
Sucking my final air.
Head against the car's ceiling.
Surrounded by my sopping hair.

Horrified, my head pounds.
Thinking my final thoughts.
The water covers my anticipating lips.
The last battle lost but fought.

The last gleam of hope fades.
Hold my breath, but it can't last.
Face turning shades of blue and gray.
Entering a new place so vast.

A gagged breath of reliance.
Water fills my empty lungs
tainting the very spot
where my hope once hung.

Pain shoots through my head.
Seemingly strong enough to kill.
Once, I wanted to live,
but now, I've lost my will.

Eyes shut and faintly fluttering.
Numb face no longer feels the water's flow.
The end of my life on Earth,
because I chose to let go.
