Sweet Dreams

Wearily, I crawl under the blankets,
trying to forget the events of the day.
Why do the bad times feel so vivid
while the good ones seem so gray?

It doesn't take me long to fall asleep
and drift away to the land of dreams.
At last my body has found its peace,
or at least that's how it seems.

Silenced whispers fly above the clouds,
and sweetly kiss the wind.
The stars are grinning brightly,
like they know that I have sinned.

Suddenly I'm being chased,
by the visions in my mind.
Nothing is safe here anymore.
A place to hide I cannot find.

I sweat but I cannot awake,
this has gotten out of hand.
My eyelids won't open now,
Asleep in another land.

Walking in the darkest of nights,
through a cemetery lie the dead.
This nightmare takes it's toll on me,
I can't get it out of my head.

Death creeps in closer each step,
My body already lying in place.
Just bury me six feet under,
I'll vanish without a trace.

I awake with a sudden jerk,
checking to see if I bleed.
Alive and in the light,
A sigh of relief I breathe.
