The matriarch

The matriarch of the family
We said good-bye to you today
Though you were not my grandmother
I still loved you anyway

You said something special
Something I will never forget
You told me I was like my Nanna
Who I loved from the outset

You were like a towering beauty
So tall and slender you see
I have memories as a child
Of a kind tall lady with me

You were strong and charismatic
Always stopped to share a smile
Though I only saw you seldomly
I enjoyed our time all the while

I remember at the campsite
Though you never stopped to sleep
A hotel was more your castle
A memory I will always keep

Age was not your friend
You became sick and so frail
Still fighting until your last days
Now on Angels wings you sail

You are now a star in the sky
Twinkling in Heaven above
And when I always think of you
You will be remembered with such love
