Nothing

by Imogen   Apr 4, 2006

When the life that you once knew has been reduced to a mere existence, what do you do?

Some might pick themselves up, scrape up any faded remnants of Life that remain and start a new life; trying their hardest to make something out of nothing.

Some might drink themselves into oblivion, trying to blot out the pain life has become, trying to find solace and a bliss that is lost forever.

But I don't.
Instead I take the knife.
I gently run the blade across my wrist, tracing the faded scars that lie embedded in my skin from the past, from when I had a life, when I thought I knew pain, when I thought life couldn't get any worse.

How wrong I was.

This is pain.
Having nothing, knowing nothing.
Nothing to live for, nothing to die for.
No purpose.
No direction.
No motive.
No nothing.
Just me.
But what is this thing that I've become?
A shell with nothing left but a body.
Soon it will be nothing at all.
Today I'm a nothing, tomorrow I'll be a statistic.
Another teen suicide.
I'll be a "shame", a "wasted life", and "unfortunate circumstance", but the only real "pity" in their words will be me.
Even in death I won't be allowed to be myself.
And I'll still be a nothing.
