Water (2005 age 13)

by Imogen   Apr 4, 2006

Water.
So pure, so fresh, so simple,
Yet so beautiful.
See it glistening in the autumn sun,
See it rippling gently down the fresh clear river,
See it lapping slowly at the sandy shore,
See it falling gracefully down from the skies,
Its simplicity is its beauty.
See the man standing on the sand,
Staring out at the calm surface of the sea,
He sees its tranquility,
This angel has given him everything;
His job, a new chance.
See the water fall into their waiting mouths,
So grateful for this gift of life.
Water; clean, pure, refreshing,
It gives us life,
Water.

Water.
So pure, so fresh, so simple,
Yet so dangerous.
See it twinkling menacingly in the autumn sun,
See it roaring harshly down the lifeless river,
See it crashing quickly on the sandy shore,
See it thundering clumsily down from the skies,
Its simplicity is its danger.
See the man standing on the sand,
Staring out at the calm surface of the sea,
He sees its brutality,
This monster has taken away everything;
His home, his business, his family, his chance at a better life.
See the banks overflow with tears,
The woman lamenting the loss of life.
Water; dirty, disease, tsunamis, floods,
It gives us death,
Water.

I like how you have portrayed water as both the giver of life and the bringer of death!!

    Wow.. just.. WoW.

I absolutely LOVE this poem. The descriptions and the flow of it is amazing.. I love how you contrast the two stanzas when you are really talking about the same thing, but in a different light each time. Like positive, negative. I love that, especially with the descriptive words and colors I see in this poem. AMAZING; absolutely, marvelously wonderful job =)
