Sweet Amy Was Told...

by Kaylee   Apr 4, 2006

Seven year old Amy tucked
strands of blonde hair by her ears.
Wearing that flowered dress
slightly down to her bruised knees.
Brilliant blue eyes shining with
the depth of the sea. Mysterious.
Praying in the back of her mind
that the good Lord was watching her.
Sweet Amy was told...

Angel with those red rimmed eyes
and that tissue clutched in your hand.
When you go to sleep tonight
imagine the twilight above your head.
Every shining star is another
prayer of faith gazing down on you.
With the medicine we have
inside colored bottles,
we feel you have a chance.
Sweet Amy was told.

Ten year old Amy was sitting on
the edge of her bed that morning.
Brush running through those
golden curls then falling, to the bed.
Staring through the window
and listening to the birds singing for her.
Admitting that what she needed
most was to play on that green grass.
Sweet Amy was told...

Beautiful girl with that bright
sun-kissed glow, why are you crying?
Those innocent birds are singing for you.
Will you please listen?
Tears falling down your face
and splashing on the worn blanket.
With the medicine we have
inside these bottles,
we feel you have a chance.
Sweet Amy was told.

Seventeen year old Amy
was carving her name in the tree.
With every piece of the bark
falling, she felt diminishing pain.
There were two letters engraved
inside that carved heart.
Beside her was an angel,
the one to be her guiding light.
Sweet Amy was told...

Golden ring matching the
spirit you have risen in me.
Sun setting on the morning’s past
and the tomorrows still to be.
While she waited for the call
that could be what saved her life.
Bending down on one knee,
her angel came and said,
“Sweet Amy, will you marry me?”

I loved the sweet amy story, it was really quite brilliant, that word being mine of highest praise, but the ending bothered me a bit. I know it was your intention to switch to the next one, but it just . . . died for me with that ending. It was so good and then . . . like someone crossed out the rest and said here is a finished poem. Sorry love.
