Expect the Unexpected

by Kaye   Apr 5, 2006

Death peered over my shoulder,
He whispered in my ear,
"Beware of those close to you,
Expect the unexpected."
I turned around to face him
But was faced with just thin air.

I wondered what he could have meant,
I wondered if he was really there.
Days and months and years passed by,
And still I didn't understand.

One night a shadow came towards me,
It glided through my bedroom window,
It whispered certain things to me,
Things I shouldn't have overheard.
Their secrets killed me that night,
It cut me down and left me for dead.

Death peered over my shoulder,
He whispered in my ear,
"Beware of those close to you,
Expect the unexpected."

Betrayal, lost trust, suspicion,
Confusion, delusions, pain.
Secrets can't always stay secrets,
Promises are meant to be broken.
Expect the unexpected,
For you'll never know,
When a loved one would betray you
And leave you to die in the dark.
