I had yet to feel the joy
of you directing your voice towards me.
Smiles and glances
were my tiny plea.

I hardly noticed
your little "issue,"
and though it took a while,
I'm really starting to miss you.

The tears just keep coming
as I say a prayer to forget you.
My nose gets stuffy,
and my sobs, I can't subdue.

I find it hard to catch a wink
even though I'm exhausted.
Tomorrow, when I can't stand up,
I'll know what this has costed.

I miss your warming smile
with dimples that added charm.
I thought everything about you was perfect--
even your useless arms.

I lie awake begging God,
"Let me see him again!"
Somehow, love breaks all ties
with the helpful Mr. Sandman.

Depression sets in,
and I scribble down more words.
Messy and almost illegible,
because, by tears, my eyes are blurred.
