Cut in a rose bouquet

by Bonnie Rose   Apr 6, 2006

I'm sure i caught her in a vulnerable state,
salty red cheeks staining her face,
the voices crept up the stairs
heavier than the one before in every step,
My interference would of only added fuel
an hour later in the doorway standing still
her head bowed on the table top
aloft in hopeless vows
a ceremony orchestrated in a symphony
of sorrowful violins with tightened strings
Now i stand unsure of what to say
unable to even reach out my hand
incapable to comfort her
in the slightest way
And as if on cue, a petal falls her way
that swayed her choice from the last bouquet
so in nervous thoughts i make stupid conversation
pretending i have no idea what has just happened
She does not move
sound probably drowned in the lake of her thoughts
lips slightly parted, words I'm about to speak
somehow escape in a mist and fail me
I hear the distant noise
of his car driving past the back door
Kind of half hoping he wont take his foot of the pedal
Drive on by, so when he rings for forgiveness
theres a delay in his voice
from a thousand miles away.
