Love is Patient: Part I

by Poetvoices   Apr 7, 2006

She was alway open minded.
She finished what she started.
She pressed on through the hardest times
with her life securely guarded.

She met him through a mutual friend.
They hit it off right away.
At first, they saw each other at LEAST once a week,
and then, it was every minute of every day.

When they met disagreement,
which happened at times,
each was understanding
and could read between the lines.

Every time she said, "No,"
he'd say, "Okay!
Don't hurry yourself.
You're not ready today.
I love you, baby.
Don't do anything you're not ready for,
but the sooner we do it,
we can enjoy it more."

The heavy choices were hard to bear
except for with a rhyme.
She loved to write songs,
that is, when she found the time.

A temporary escape
from the world that she lived in.
Pressure on her was mounting.
She poured her thoughts from deep within.

"Is this love?
I'm just too young to know.
He pretends not to mind,
but why can't he just let it go?
As much as I feel I love him,
I can't help but think:
Isn't love supposed to be patient?
Between my influences, I've discovered a missing link.
As momma always said:
'Men are stupid.
Men are blind.
Love is patient.
Love is kind.
Don't ever let a boy
mess with your pretty head.
Until he gets mature,
he'll go back on everything he's said.'"

She decided on that day,
that Mama was harsh on men.
Besides, he WAS mature!
She made her decision then.
