Love is Patient: Part II

by Poetvoices   Apr 7, 2006

Nothing was quite as perfect
as she had planned it'd be,
and hiding something so big from her mom
wasn't going to be easy.

She felt empty for weeks after.
Like she'd given up something she'd prided herself in.
Her self respect and confidence,
she found were growing thin.

Since she'd lost it all,
she gave in so many times more.
To put it quite plainly,
the girl felt like a wh0re.

They were going to be married,
or so she thought,
but when he found out about the baby,
he was gone before he could be caught.

IT wasn't his,
or so he said.
Her son WAS his.
Her embarrassed face turned red.

He left so fast.
Nowhere to be found.
She was all alone.
No one was around.

Sitting on the balcony,
she strummed that familiar melody on her guitar.
She glanced over the edge.
It was not so far.

She sang the chorus
one more time.
In her heart,
she'd memorized the line.

"Men are stupid.
Men are blind.
Love is patient.
Love is kind."

An apology note to her mom
was the last thing that she wrote.
She strived so hard to swallow
the lump in her throat.

All it said was, "I'm sorry.
I couldn't raise him alone.
You can't save me now.
I'm already gone.
Sammy would've been a strong boy,
but look at it this way.
He'll never have to know his wretched mother
or treat a girl in his father's way."

One small leap
was all it took
to end her life
like a tragic book.
