I Smile

You've seen me smile daily
But you never took the time,
To understand the inner me
Or what goes through my mind.
The darkness that enfolds my life
The music that I hear,
The little things that make me cry,
The things that cause me fear.
The smile that I wear is fake,
My words are full of lies.
The pain and sorrow that I feel,
Is absent from my eyes.
I've done my best to fool you,
And it seems I've played my part.
You never knew the horrors
That were tearing me at my heart.
You never heard the silent cries
I'd never let escape,
So now I wear this dreadful mask
To cover up my hate.
And so, unnoticed, I will go,
And walk another mile.
No one ever sees my pain,
They only see me smile.
