The Picture

by Michael Rutland   Apr 10, 2006

As the picture hangs on the wall it lies to us all
It makes you believe he still is here
But he's not he walked out on us
For someone else but we don't show it to the world
We keep it bottled up inside
Now to see him means not seeing my friends
There are restrictions on life
Why did this fate have to fall on my family and me?
We grow farther apart each day
My parents coop together but there is a disturbance beneath the surface
I've looked into the eyes of the person, which broke our family
I've ran around and played tag with that person
It was an after Christmas gift telling me they were going their separate ways
Now I'm torn between two houses with different rules
If they ask me to choose it will rip me in half
I can't choose one or the other it's just not fair
My family was as solid as a rock till it happened
What happened was their thought
I just wish I could go back in time and erase this horrible thing
Nothing is left besides pain
This is what the portrait doesn't tell you
So just hang on to those you love
And this may not happen to you
To have a portrait lie to the outside world
To all who sees it
Is not what anyone one should have to deal with or
Wish for.
