The Girl Who Longed to Fly

by ~Amy~   Apr 11, 2006

Everywhere you gaze
There are people who have heard
Of a fragile little girl
Who longed to soar high like a bird
Deep inside her soul
Were tucked her delicate wings of light
She aquired them by faith
For the day she would take flight
Trying to find the message
In her feelings of inadequacy
Picking up the pieces of who she was and soon would be
No more could it be kept in secret
Than a snowflake fall in June
For her eyes whaled with aspiration
And her heart was lost in tune
The people mocked and judged
The girl they didn't understand
Who danced in the streets to music
That came solely from within
At last the day had come
For the world to stand and behold
Inside her fear crept in
But she was determined to be bold
She climbed the lofty mountains
Below the people were confused
She stepped off the edge and soared
With the wings she never learned to use
Now everwhere you stare
There are people who recall
The girl who longed to fly...
Who lives within us all.
