It was 3 a.m. when you called
you where crying
so i came over to your house
i climbed into your window
and hugged you
you had a bad dream
you told me what it was about
"i was losing you and i don't know why."
as i held you
i noticed something for the first time
as i smiled and told you it was going to be OK
you smiled back
i looked deeply into your eyes
ans saw what i had noticed
it was your inner being,
your heart,
it pounded softly
it was hurt
and you couldn't explain it
so i stayed with you
until you fell asleep again
then i began to leave
you reached for my arm
and you said
"i love you"
and i knew then that you had figured it out
and i said "i love you"
kissed you on your forehead
and crawled out the window
went back home smiling
you know that smile still sits on my face today
and you did that
call me whenever you need me
I'll be here for you
