The Stranger's Reflection

by Fighter (Ariane L.)   Apr 16, 2006

The girl stares at the reflection in the mirror,
Stripped to the core; exposed for the first time.
Her layers of protection no longer hide her.
Her masks are no longer able to fool her.

She analyses herself in the mirror:
Beneath the layers lies a shaken woman,
Unable to let go of the ghosts of her past;
Unable to face the painful truth,
Until today.

Only the tears that run down her cheeks
Betray her bright smile, plastered.
Looking at herself for the first time,
She sees who she's really become.

As she stares at her reflection,
She's unable to run from her past.
Falling to her knees, her silent screams
Echo into the room; oblivious for so long.

No longer able to escape the pain,
She sits in the puddle of her bleeding heart,
Desperately crying for help.

The truth finally dawned on her.
Beneath her layers of protection,
She can no longer escape the pain.

Stripped to the core, exposed,
She looks for her reflection,
Desperately searching for a part of herself,
For only a stranger stares at her.

*i was reading some of my old poems, and i couldnt help but remember how i felt... but i had to write this. for some unknown reason, i just had to...
