Bitter Resemblance

by Julianne   Apr 17, 2006

One flickering lamp lights the musty room.
Two hits echo off of the cold basement walls:
her knees hitting the ground
and the rest of her falling shortly after.

One tattered quilt covers her trembling body.
Two delicate hands reach up to erase
the trails of whimpering
from the colorless curves of her face.

One lucid thought pounds inside her head.
Two desperate fists hammer onto the damp floor.
Infant screeches claw their way continuously
through the surrounding night.

One antique heart is shattered.
Two people are separated.
He feels better about himself.
She begins to feel numb; all over again.
