Letting Go

by Danielle   Apr 18, 2006

Pushing her glasses up her nose
She began to write some words
They poured out effortlessly from
Her fingertips onto the keyboard
Words that came from her soul.

She wrote of all the things she
Experienced in her life - the tears
She had shed and the smiles she
Had smiled; she wrote of the things
She felt as she grew older.

Tears glided silently down her cheeks
As she relived some of her worst times
The times in her life when living was dying
And dying was living; times when she
Had wanted to just end it all and die.

A smile creeps over her face as she
Pushes the bad memories from her mind
And instead turns to the good - the times
That made her laugh at the mere thought
The times that gave her courage to live.

She remembered the joy she her felt
The very first time she laid eyes on her
Baby sister, how lucky she was to have
Her in her life; how close she had come
To losing her and never knowing her.

She remembered the day she met her
Best friend, the girl who had been by her
Side through all the good and the bad;
The girl who continued to be there today
She remembered all the tears they had shared.

She remembered all the friends that she
Had met; all the different aspects they
Brought to her friendship and to her life
They were all the little parts that made
Up who she was; made her complete.

Pushing her glasses up her nose once more
She vowed to never let the bad memories
Stop her from experiencing the good ones
And of making new ones; she swore to not
Let them oppress her, but become part of who she was to become.

And so she let go of the bad memories
That had held her down for so many years
And began to make her way down the path
That would lead her on a good and happy life
The life that would lead her to herself.
