What You've Given Up

by andrea   Apr 21, 2006

You're going to miss seeing them grow,
You're going to miss every inch; I want you to know.

You have no idea what you've given up.
Is it worth what you've found inside that devils cup?

Smiles and laughter, I get to see it all,
Tears and disappointment, I will recall.

Football, baseball, dancing and cheers;
Will it be worth it all, at the end of your years?

You will have nothing but a phone call here and there,
Not much proof to them that you really care.

A little boy without a dad just isn't right;
A fatherless daughter, you've taken away her delight.

How is it that you could walk away?
How could you not want them, I ask in dismay.

They are my world, my light;
They are the only thing that makes life alright.

You've chosen to disappear,
Left them angry, confused and longing for you to just be near.

Soon though, they will no longer express a care;
Soon it won't matter to them that you weren't there.

So now, I must ask you once again; Is what you've found,
Worth not being around?
