The scent lingers behind

by scott arrowsmith   Apr 22, 2006

The scent lingers behind
My first breaths of the morning air
I awoke with my hands outreached my arms empty
The taste lingers on my lips
My mouths juicy breath is the only release
I awoke with a hunger and find that i am still starving
Restlessness overwhelms, sleep I must obtain
Passion released my foundation still shakes
I awaken to find my senses overwhelming
The intensity of my body leads me to believe I dreamed
Finding the wreckage behind I know it was real
There is no denial my body still boils of heat
The skin of her body still clings to my naked shape
The glow of her body iridescent the look of her face tranquil
The truth is undeniable this is my secret that I cannot share
I stare at the peacefulness of her sleep
Wonder this morning of which dreams lie within
Was it my touch that brought her peace or the warmth of my embrace
I want to begin again but cannot disturb what I find to be beautiful
I beg for her eyes to open her mouth to accept my kiss
Yet I am content just feeling her skin next to mine
This body whose shape I have traced repeatedly in my mind
Now I lay down to try to find sleep and find once again I am awake
Yet the scent lingers behind
