Twisted reality

by shattered and broken   Apr 25, 2006

*this is a free verse poem. Not what i normally write. I'd appreciate feedback. Thanks.*

A man in the distance stares at you in the shadows you swear you can feel his breathe against you neck but you ignore it and walk away

A women stumbles into you on the sidewalk her eyes screaming of distress as she looks through you like your not even there you wonder but pretend in never happened

Once your home a note is left on the counter it reads
"Hello my dear I've come to stay I'm in your heart you can't cast me away so stop trying to pretend that you can win you'll lose this game in the end."

The girl stops breathing now and drops the note she runs to the kitchen where in the window she sees a child playing freely, carelessly, the child stares at her straight at her but doesn't see her, the girl runs to her room

She locks the door she can no longer understand anything she thinks she's far past insane so she opens her closet and hides

Its morning now she's slept all night she cant believe the day she had she figures it was all just a dream

She walks down stairs to her mothers note on the counter sweetly saying,
"I went to the market. I'll be home later to cook lunch. Have a wonderful day sweetheart. I love you very much."

The girl puts the note in her pocket and walks to the woods. She meets a man on the street eyes full of life and caring. He stares at her and says hello with his eyes, she walks past him feeling a sigh of relief

She keeps walking into the forest where she sees a woman in the distance staring at her through the sunlight she swears she can feel the women's smile the girl smiles back and keeps walking

She's deep in the forest now so deep its dark her breatheing becomes heightened and she begins to feel dizzy she sits on a log. When she wakes up she's in her closet clenching a note, an angry note, not the one from her mother she runs downstairs to find that she's all alone. She's not sure what's true anymore.

She sees the note from her mother on the counter and the note in her hand disappears she doesn't understand. This doesn't make sense. The girl doesn'ts unerstand her reality is being torn apart thread by thread.

She picks up a phone to call anyone but someone's already there they whisper,
"I told you, you couldn't win."
She hangs up fast and runs outside where she meets a child in the street playing carelessly and freely not knowing the truck that's coming the girl runs farther meeting a women who's eyes she knows she's seen before but cant remember where she still runs till she finds a man in the distance staring at her in the shadows and she swears she can feel his breathe on her neck she turns around he's there looking into her eyes she knows now this was her fate. The man leads her away into the depths of the forest and takes her hand in his and softly whispers in her ear,
"Hello my dear, I am the reaper, I've come to stay I'm in your heart you can't cast me away so stop trying to pretend that you can win you'll lose this game in the end." And with one breathe he takes her wind she falls dead to the ground her twisted reality gone.

Its morning now the sun raises the girls in her bed and her mom's home cooking lunch. A man is in the kitchen helping while a women sleeps silently on the couch, a child runs in from playing. That's what was there all along. That's what they told you all along, that's true reality, right?

*Thanks for reading, sorry it's long. Iwould love feedback please.
