They aint seen nothing yet

by Wendy   Apr 25, 2006

They saw a child with a child
Not a mistake they would have done...
Standing aside, hiding their eyes, voicing its wrong to
be alone...
A babe needs a father, give up there is no way
cutting me down for doing "their steps" all wrong
After 16 years, are they still itching to tell me "I told you so."?
Bite your tongue, Soon I'll have my say
They wont know what hit them, when they knew my strength all along.
Look at me now, as I plan,
They haven't seen anything yet, no way.

Go ahead make your list, of all I have failed to do
Write down no father, don't forget the marriage too.
Are they shocked to find I'm not following their book of life?
Steps are not written in stone, I've made my own path
A perfect world? A perfect life? A perfect family? I laugh
How could they possibly know who I am, through all my strife?
All the pain, the anguish, ripping at my heart
Breaking me down???????
16 years you aint seen nothing yet..... this is only the start.

I've been through the good and all of the bad
They see what I got, on my own, from all I had
They still see that child with a child
Sometimes blind to all the good I do
With checklist in hand, they don't have a clue.

I am a mother and father first and foremost
My child not molded by society, and just as important as theirs
I will forever be proud.
They must think she is deaf, Their reactions are very loud.
I now have a career, a home, and forever a good heart
I came from nothing, can't they see I have a great start?
Its OK that they see only my past
I know many more things than them, and yes even you.
We have survived more than anyone could imagine
They aint seen nothing yet, tis true
Their rulebook pushed into my life, will no longer overcast.

They should stand far back as they have always done,
Take notice of this woman, and young lady
They aint seen nothing yet...........1 day I WILL capture the sun.

Trudge on and continue to hold your head high for you've said it so well - "I am a mother and father first and foremost".
