A Shattered Love

He was a dream come true
It was as if he wasnâ??t, yet he was
He had élan and he had style
And his easy smile- he had class.

With him, my heart was always racing
And singing and teasing each other
We had not a care in the world,
We were so happy together.

Those were lovely golden days
As in the orchard we would meet
Our prattle seemed so sensible
On that lovely, soft, grassy seat.

I thought we were made for each other
I could feel it in my bones
I heard the river sing the same
I read it on the solid, steady stones.

I still donâ??t know what it was
I was so lost I didnâ??t see it coming
It hit me and went away
And I only had time to feel the harsh sting.

It was the river that took him away
It was torture to see him brought out
As I looked upon his serene dear face
I could hear the river, in glee, shout.

It was as if I lived only for him
And now the river laughed at my tears
They lowered him into the ground
But I only remember his face so dear.

I walked away from the earth that held him
I ran to that sacred orchard, that holiest ground
Where were built all my hopes and dreams
But pieces of my shattered heart were all I found.
