Whose life are you living?

By acting as others think you should
And following social rules
Are you truly being yourself,
Or playing us all for fools?
By obeying by social standards
And trying so hard to "fit in"
Who's life are you truly living?
Is this who you really are within?
We alter our selves for the sake of others
Doing what they see right,
But we are merely living a lie
Keeping the real you out of sight.
Allowing others to judge you
And taking heed to what they say,
Following the rules set by others
In this game of life you must play.
Look deep inside yourself
Is this truly who you are?
Or are you lying to yourself?
If so you must know it won't get you far.
For a lie to oneself is the worst you can do
To deceive your own mind
Can lead to terrible things
One day you may find
The fake you will grow in strength
That the real you is no more,
You have become a mere shadow
With little of what you were before,
Become a clone of society,
Another brick within the wall,
A robot in society,
All that's human has come to fall.
Now whose life are you living?
Can you say it is your own?
When all you do is due to others
And you become a clone.

    I thought this was an excellent piece again and it had some powerful truth in it. The flow and structure were brilliant too and the poem made perfect sense. keep up the great work. Thankyou for reading mine and my friends poems. :)

    This is absolutely amazing.. i loved the truth in it and how u shed some light on the lives people lead.. u displayed a gr8 sense of rhythm and it had a powerful foundation; it wasnt shaky and unstable.. i loved ur last stanza; summed the whole poem for me, and esp. the last line just stuck with me..

    I really loved this piece. So much truth in it. So many people today are just.. All the same? Non one anymore be's themselves. It's sad. You did a great job on this piece though. Really made me think. Keep it up 5/5
