The Test

by Stephanie   Apr 27, 2006

I remember sitting on daddy's knee
I remember helping mommy bake cookies
I remember playing Barbie dolls with my sister
Wishing the days of my youth would pass quicker
I remember my little brother always wanting to play
I'm too old I said watching him frown as he went away
I remember when my papaw went away
I told myself I'd see him again someday
I remember when I forgot how to have fun
Afraid to act goofy, laugh, or run
I remember when I thought my parents wouldn't age
Now they're beginning to wrinkle and they're turning gray
I remember wishing I were eighteen
That was the greatest age it seemed
I remember when time seemed to drag on
Now I blink my eye and it's gone
How I long for the simple days and times
And I realize as I sit here writing these rhymes
Life's not waiting on me and I've got to do my best
I only hope when it's all done I pass the test.
