A Very Good Lie

It truly was a very good lie
You saying you'd love me 'til the day that you died
But somehow you took that fable away
When you packed up your things and left me that day.

It truly was a very good lie
Each time you wiped away tears that I cried
You'd tell me don't worry, but you knew how I felt
Like sugar in water, My heart would just melt.

It truly was a very good lie
When you said you were faithful, my heart couldn't deny
And maybe my heart had a mind of it's own
When I believed I'd never live life all alone.

It truly was a very good lie
Me willing to trust and give love a try
To finally know these feelings I found
Would be there forever and not let me down.

But, oh I was wrong, when it all fell apart
Leaving debris in the place of my heart
And I hoped and I hoped, but your love went away
Packed in your suitcases and boxes that day.

So now here I sit, My teardrops are gone
Stuck in the shadows, where they belong
My life feels so empty, since you said goodbye
Yes, All you said, Was a very good lie.

    Ok, this poem really got to me... i really am like crying right now. im just so amazed that you could write this, this is exactly what i was feeling after my boyfriend broke up with me. he said all these things to me, and in the end he had been lying the whole time.
    anyways... i love it, great job!

    Wow this was a very interesting poem.. I loved the part about the sugar and the water.. such a deep and unique metaphor well thought out.. I dont think anything else would have fit so perfectly in that spot way to go.. nice poem.

    Hey, i really enjoyed reading this poem...im sorry for everything that you had to go thru...i've been thru that before...and it just pisses me off that he had to lie about everything or whatever...ppl like that just arent worth it...u deserve better...great write
