In the Company of the Moon

Late in the night,
when all but the owls take their slumber,
a silhouetted figure stands silently by a window,
alone with the moon.

a wordless conversation,
communication only possible between two like these,
ones who felt pain and agony of the indescribable sort,
and now face the sadness.

Courage through the day,
lacks staying ability and sets itself along with the sun,
letting free the memories shrouded in remembrance,
of writhing nightmares.

Salty tears held firmly back,
now drip their way out through the growing cracks,
in the smile that held this liquid at bay when the light,
gave it strength enough.

Night's sinister embrace,
is the only warmth left to the person whose honest feelings,
finally seep through as the sorrow devours their facade,
in the company of the moon.
