Letting Go

by Heidi   May 2, 2006

Letting go is hard
but holding on is harder
each leaves their scars
differing just in depth

illusion fades away
from eyes no longer blind
now seeing deadly damage
long hidden and ignored

knowing it has to end
yet praying for delay
where now do you go
ahead or back behind

keeping a firm grip
on all that has been done
digging in your heels
despite the pain it brings

daily the slope steepens
burning fills your arms
but the farther on you go
fear grows more inside

one day you'll give out
collapse, shaking and weak
wondering why you held
instead of letting go
