Who Are You

by Bradley Peter   May 4, 2006

Are you the wind beneath the trees
or perhaps the figure in the dark
are you the object that no one sees
or maybe the unspoken remark

do you appear and complete a task
then just as soon you disappear
are you the question we dare to ask
and the truth we dare not to hear

are you in the corner of every room
watching as the world goes by
are you the child inside the womb
when the child is destined to die

do you exist in everything living
and know you'll never be found
do you know there's no forgiving
a man who claim to own the ground

are you the thing that slides past
that people think they've seen
are you both the first and the last
and the thing that's never been

are you masked in true disguise
do you hide in tears and laughter
are you dismissed as only lies
and then reappear so soon after

are you the thing people search for
but that will never truly find
until the day they search no more
is that the future of mankind

K, I finally finished readin it, and i had 2 read it a good few times tryin 2 guess wot it myt be, but I love the fact that this poem is so open to interpretation and allows you to draw your own conclusions. At first I thought it was death but after readin it a third time I thought it could have been perhaps a presence of a higher being, or hope or innocence. I don't know but my perceptions changed each time I read it. Neway, as usual it was definitely a thought-provoking, mysterious, creative and simply a brilliant poem!
