The Beginning of My Dying Heart

by mer   May 10, 2006

She kissed my forehead
Whispered her tear filled confession
As she left us in dispair

She needed to feel alive again
Crawl out of the dark hole
She had been confined to
The one only she had
Imprisoned herself in

The door closed its mouth
As her body slipped
out the other side,
Car engine rumbled,
Only to muffle her tears and goodbyes

She was dead to me then,
Forgetting her name,
Remembering only my pain,
Loving only what she
Had not touched.
But it killed me even then,
Yet I persisted to give in.

I listen to her voice now,
On the other end of the phone.
Listening to her love,
She had mistakenly bestowed.
Yet the bond between a mother
And her child,
Can never be torn to pieces.

Protect us from a distance,
Love us from far away,
Kiss us through a phone cord,
And hug us through the letter.

Even now i cannot complain
She is still there,
And forever will be.
Just from a distance
She is what I will see.
