One look at the time

One look at the time
nearly 5 pm
only half an hour
till the parents come home

she tries to calm down
maybe her parents won't fight again today
maybe the don't get on each other's throat tonight

then she remembers her mother
lying in the kitchen
not Strong enough to stand up
she lays next to her
helplessly, not knowing what to do
how to help her
whom to call

now, 2 years later
tears are still filling her eyes
her parents get home
everything seems fine
she knows that when she's in bed
everything will start again

so she goes upstairs
her parents begin to yell at each other
she hides in a corner of her room
hearing her mother screaming and crying

she turns the light off
telling herself that her parents will stop fighting soon
that everything will be fine
so she lays down and falls asleep

the next day she wakes up
her fathers gone
her mother's sitting at the kitchen table
her face turned to stone
she's unable to think clear
unable to speak
her eyes hurt from all the crying

everybody knows that when the father gets back home again
the fighting will start again
like every night
this sadness that she feels
when she thinks about her parents
will be an never ending pain
