Silent Night

by sammie-rae   May 13, 2006

Tear her gaze from the television,
Her eyes are stabbed by neon light,
"Oh s**t!" she says,
"Not another fight tonight."

She remembers the last time clearly,
She's branded it in her head,
So that she will never ever,
Make that first mistake again.

The car door slams aloud,
Cutting through the air,
She hears the sound of crunching gravel,
And feel fingers run through her hair.

It is her mother that stands behind her,
Her fingers on her head,
They felt as cold as ice,
"Stay with me," she said.

Keys fumble at the door,
They chime as they hit the ground,
Cursing echos through the window,
She winces at the sound.

Two hearts stop beating,
As the front door slowly creeks,
A shadow shone by the moonlight,
It's time for hide and seek.

She still remembers that night,
It was the coldest night of the year,
Screams filled the air like darkness spreads,
Surprised the neighbors didn't hear.

She called it the "Silent Night",
And she puts flowers on the grave,
Tears roll down her cheeks,
She's the one her mother saved.
