Alone she waits in the night\'s fresh cold
Standing exactly where she had been told
Her head says he\'s coming but her heart says he\'s not
He was meant to be here but she knows he\'s forgot
Today with honors she\'d graduate
He promised her he would not be late
Another lie and another excuse
She\'d wait another minute but she knows there\'s no use
Holding her trophy, her ribbon, her purse
As the rain starts to pour the, Lord she curse
Her mascara soon runs as ears fill her eyes
She drops to her knees and screams as she cries
\'Momma tell me, why doesn\'t he care?
When he says he will he\'s never there
Another lie and more excuses
I would tell him my feelings but i know it is useless.\'
Slowly a car pulls up alongside
The window whirrs, \'Do you want a ride?\'
She turns her head, she looks away
\'Where were you?\' she asked, \'I graduated today.\'
His princess, his daughter, his little girl
She\'s grown out of ribbons and dainty curls
No more does she need his hand to hold
She\'s uncovered the secrets and lies he\'s told
\'I\'m sorry\', he said, \'Really i am-\'
\'It\'s too late dad, I don\'t give a damn!
I can\'t forgive you, this time i don\'t care!
You lied to me dad and it\'s really not fair!\'
Quietly huddled she sits in her seat
Just the sound of the car and her rushing heart beat
When they get home she\'s packing her things
She\'ll fly away still on her tattered wings
