The Smoking Gun

by Twisted Heart   May 16, 2006

They thought it would last forever
Their life they committed to share
But hateful words came between them
Their love had gone missing somewhere.

A divorce was their final solution
For love they weren't willing to fight
One child they had, held between them
But they never held him just right.

Now, that child they used as a weapon
When they wanted each other to break
They pulled him in many directions
While getting each other to hate.

They screamed the tales of each other
The lies ringing all through his head
That poor little innocent child
Had to listen to all that was said.

Until finally that child couldn't take it
His only escape was to run
No longer would he be their weapon
No longer Their smoking gun.

So he left with no more than a whisper
Holding strong against all of his fears
Now his parents are still out their searching
For a child who's been gone seven years.

A man and a woman sit wanting
Their heartache is too much to bear
All for a child who's gone missing
Who's out in the darkness somewhere.
