Red roses... raven feathers

by Elynnka   May 21, 2006

The night was cold - the moon astray,
The city asleep – end of yet another day.
Flickering lights give birth to shadows of black,
The atmosphere tense – he’s ready to attack.

A wandering woman walking down the street,
Unprepared for what’s to come, tonight death she’ll meet.
Strange noises surround her – her heart beating faster,
In front of her weary eyes rose her darkest master.

“Alone, my lady, are you not?
You shouldn’t go out this late – have you forgot?”
She turns in fear to where the voice came –
She saw a pale man’s face, had she gone insane?

“Well I was just…” “Yes…?” he said with a sneer
“I was going home and…” “And…?” he said getting near,
The woman was shivering with insecurity – confused,
She thought she heard voices, was she being used?

“You were saying, my lady…?” – His lips close to her face,
She could not answer as her heart beat at an even faster pace,
Slowly reaching for her neck with his ashen lips so cold,
A sudden bite stroke through her skin letting death unfold.

And so night after night this cruel ritual took place
Until this alluring fiend fell in love with a victim’s face –
Her skin so soft, her eyes so beautifully blue,
She was the only one to resist his power; How? He never knew…

Her red lips were like blooming roses in a crystal vase,
Her silhouette outlined in the moon beam’s silver grace
Seemed so unnatural and seductive - he could not take her life
And for the first time in hundreds of years he felt alive.

“Who are you?” her whispering voice sent shivers down his spine
“Are you going to hurt me?” “No, my precious, you’ll be fine”
In a flash second his strong arms were wrapped around her waist
And as he held her close to his chest, they flew away with haste.

He felt her heartbeat pounding louder in his hectic head
“My love, fear me not, I do not wish to have you dead.”
“Then why have you taken me with you in this darkened land
Where death seems at home and colder than your livid hand?”

Embraced by the night, he looked at her with eyes of insanity,
He smiled angelic like no other of his kind could – beautifully;
“You see, I never understood what attracts me to my prey
Until I met you…and it all came clear to me like the light of day”

“Tell me…” she said in still a little shock with this scene,
“You see… a vampire’s bound to Hell with no right to redeem
Everything that he had back when he was human like you,
When the sun rays did not threaten his life as today they do.

I crave for freedom… I yearn to feel alive and now
This love I feel for you makes me feel released somehow”
“A vampire in love?” she said – her voice in disbelief,
“How can a fallen one have feelings for something other than mischief?”

Her words struck him like a poisoned dart through his body so pale,
“You see, dear, I’m in love with your resistance and your heart – frail”
“And I thought you only love to destroy these things and dominate…”
He could feel the hatred in her words “There are other things than hate…”

Soon her eyes felt teary for a reason not even she knew
“Need not feel ashamed, my love, for I can feel what you feel too,
I can read your thoughts – you need not judge me so hard,
I love you…” with these three words he played his last card.

“Well… I must admit… I find your power irresistible in a way
And I am grateful for you did not kill me today…”
Her heart beat in an abnormal pace – it was not hate nor fear,
She looked at him frowning – why couldn’t things be more clear?

“You can feel it too… can you not, my precious love?”
It was if she felt another heart beating in her chest like wings of a dove,
Soon she was to find out that it was his heart pounding in the same pace
“What does this mean?” she said – insecurity shown on her face.

“I’ll leave that to you, my dear, for you’re the one to tell
If what I’ve told you is real or just another lie I’m used to sell”
“I can feel the sincerity in your voice… and I love its sound,
Here… my life is empty, it seems to unhappiness bound…

All this time I’ve hoped for some sort of release,
For a moment of eternity in which I’ll feel pure peace,
To need not worry if I’ll wake alone tomorrow,
To need not worry if again I shall feel sorrow…

And I must say that I found comfort in your arms
And although insecure I could feel soothed by your charms,
I felt as if I had found what I’ve been looking for
I could not feel pain nor the loneliness I felt before…”

He drew himself closer and said “Come my love and be with me,
Let me taste your human blood and let us share eternity…”
And with these words he bit her neck – her blood was warm,
As her life was pulled away she felt apart from this world torn;

Up in the sky ravens gathered to watch – feathers fell,
She felt released - embraced by a bliss that no words could tell
“Soon I will be your consort and you, my love, shall be mine,
Mind not this pain, in the end you shall feel more than fine”

That was the day when withered roses bloomed to cheer
The bond set between them – his words whispered in her ear,
And since then two hollow lives were brought together
To love each other… and to live forever…

Very nicely written. Cliche topic with you. You have to get away from what you're used to and write about other things. But, you still write very nicely. This is my favorite so far. The flow is beautiful.
