The scent of dirt hangs in the air,
The children run indoors and the grownups shut the windows.
I sit there and wait for the soft patter,
The faint drumming on the roof that will tell me
The flowers outside are quenching their thirst.
Soon I hear the arriving hum of water
Falling from the skies.
As my little siblings enjoy the warmth of hot chocolate,
I open the door and step outside.
The faint smell of dirt is gone,
What had been a musky afternoon
Was now a fresh smelling night.
I close my eyes and face heavenward,
I giggle as the soft, comforting driblets
Wash away the day's stress and problems
