First Dance

Would he like to dance fast?
Or would he prefer slow?
I wonder if he'll twirl me,
Or swing me to and fro.

Is he going to hold me close?
Or dance far away.
Is he going to laugh at me?
Or leave me astray?

What should I say when we're dancing slow?
Or should I speak at all?
What happens if I start to lead?
What if I'm too small?

He grabs my hand,
And leads me to the floor,
He actually wants to dance with me,
But what for?

The song seems fairly fast,
But we're dancing so slow,
I don't know what to say or do,
I really just don't know!

My heart is beating fast,
I can feel it in my chest,
I sit there in silence,
And then came the rest?

The song ended,
But we continued to dance,
He told me he loved me,
This was my chance.

I told him how I felt,
And how I stressed about this single dance,
He laughed politely,
And gave me a loving glance.

He put his face next to mine,
And whispered in my ear,
"I promise I will never leave you,
I'll stay with you, right here"

I looked at him with loving eyes,
My heart slowing down,
I felt as comfortable as I could ever be,
Right here in this little town.

He held me close,
And we danced and danced,
Sometimes slow,
Sometimes fast.

That dance lasted forever,
It was almost perfect,
But what happened next,
Really made us connect.

He walked me home,
And we talked the whole way,
About anything and everything;
Whatever we wanted to say.

We reached my house,
I felt like a geek,
For when I turned around,
He softly kissed my cheek.

I was silent,
Almost in shock,
I snapped back to reality,
And he was already off on another long walk.

I smiled as I went inside,
I couldn't believe the night I had,
It was so perfect,
No part of it was bad.

What is he thinking right now?
Does he feel the same way about tonight?
What if it didn't seem right?
But I shook the thoughts out of my head,
And just remembered everything he told me,
And now I know he feels the same.
