I remember that day

I still remember the day we met,
On my first day of junior high.
I was scared and felt so alone,
But I saw a familiar guy.

I knew you from my childhood,
But I never thought I would become your friend.
We hit it off straight away,
But our friendship had to end.

It seemed to set sail,
But it never sank,
It just started swaying,
Like water in a rolling tank.

I was scared to talk to you,
Or even say your name.
I liked you so much,
But was afraid of sounding lame.

I remember the day you found out,
About my secret crush.
You phoned me that night,
And what you phoned for sent me into a stunned hush.

You told me you felt the same,
And were just as scared as me.
You asked me out that lovely night,
You simply set me free.

It may not sound special,
But it was perfect as could be.
I will always remember that little story,
The day our ship was set to sea.
