Graffiti Backdrop

by Ashleigh Skye   May 22, 2006

In the dark recesses of the city,
where the shadows lie and wait,
symbols and signs appear on the wall,
an oasis strictly in paint.

Each mural tells a story,
with each line another view,
and with each magical stroke of the brush,
is a story trying to break through.

Some are painted as a memorial,
some as a form of expression,
some people paint every now and then,
for other's it's a life obsession.

But for whatever reason it's painted,
it's the background to the city's stage,
hidden behind the curtain of well to do homes,
expanding off the visual page.

It breaths throughout the city,
as it's canvas continues to grow,
and it's rise in popularity,
will never reach that dreaded plateau.

So when you gaze upon the colours,
embrace the message within,
don't just stop at what you see,
because that's only where it begins.
