New Perception

If you'd asked me but a month ago,
Do you like that guy?
I'd tell you, "I'm in love with him!"
With an excited happy sigh.
But he renounced his love a while ago,
Then left me here to rot,
And now I see love differently,
That bliss which I'd once sought
The hurt love brings I do now see,
Love's anguish manifest
Its arrows have left scars on me,
Its pain I can't protest.
He gives me now no friendly glance,
That guy I had once kissed,
Not speaking to me anymore,
He pretends I don't exist.
But "life goes on" I tell myself
Though for now my heart is dim,
Someday I'll be content again,
With or without him.
