Should A poem Be Judged?

by LadyPearl   May 24, 2006

*Not my kind of topic but just trying to get a point across
----------------------------------------

Is a sad or dark poem disturbing
Does a love poem make you beg (for someone)
Is a nature poem too deep
Does explicit poems make you gag

There are poems that are stories
There are poems just of thoughts
Then many are of emotions
That dwell beneath our hearts

Should a poem teach a lesson
Should it simply make sense
Shouldn't it than be a story
A book of frivolous expense

Why judge a poem by topic
A poem of beauty and grace
Not all poems must be happy
It depends on how it's placed

No matter if it rhymes or not
Imagination is it's thing
Weaving trails of delicate words
A poem can be anything

*I wrote this because some of my poems went to the state Young authors and one of the reasons why I wasn't chosen was because of my topics and flowery words. My friend also had an amazing story that wasn't chosen by a judge because it was "disturbing" about suicides. Place your comment

Great peice, it has a good message behind it. the topic and ability to rhyme are not the most imporant aspects of a peice but far too many people seem to think that they are.

that stanza is by far my faviorate, it just sems to sum up the whole peice very well and has realy power and meaning behind it as well as flowing perfectly.

Yep. I liked this. The message you had behind it about the different kind of poetry being judged badly was good. And its a shame those judges didn't accept your poetry, Just by reading this piece you sound really good. Keep up the awesome work, And keep writing what you want to write!! 5/5
