You can't run from your past

by Becky   May 26, 2006

So I'm happy with the present
an all new beginning
but the past still haunts me
I can't run away,
from the ghosts in my past
they roam my mind
slowly breaking down my walls
sooner or later
they'll get through
and I'll go down to my knees
while they take over
me on bottom, broken
them on top, triumphant
I'll once again loose it all
then struggle to get it back
I wish I could just forget
never to remember,
just erase my past
forget all my fears
forget my misfortunes
I just want to be happy
truly happy, in and out
is that really so much to ask?

    "me on bottom, broken

I feel like you should have dashes (--) before and after this part of the poem, because if you read them as two separate lines you'll get confused; they were meant to be read together. I thought that this poem did a good job of being lyrical and rhythmic.
