Sluggish Resistance

by Seeker   May 27, 2006

Crickets
creating sounds of nights
whispering sleep,
I ignore it

concentrating
my mind on other things.
thoughts of day
swirl in my head

loneliness surrounds
I ignore the feeling
sleep whispers again
I pretend not to hear

threatening,
images of darkness
frame the wall

I sink lower
underneath the covers

my breath slows
my eyes stutter
sleep finally
overcomes
