Journey

by Hilary   May 28, 2006

Years ago, our journey started,
A path with many twists and turns...
Many mistakes were made along the way,
But, with each, I learned...
I thought, perhaps, someday that we
Could make it to the end...
Where desire and adoration won the race,
And we would become lovers and friends...
I had the notion that we'd make it,
That the miles wouldn’t keep us apart...
That we'd see that we were meant to be,
And give in to our hearts...
But somewhere along the road,
I took a different track...
I followed a different trail,
And I couldn't bring myself to go back...
For I didn't see lonely nights ahead,
Or fears of being alone...
I saw love that wanted me beside them,
To make with me a home...
I ran towards the brightest lights,
Where I didn't glimpse one tear...
And for the first time since I met you,
I felt no fear...
I've continued to look back,
Even though for years you were gone...
You thought you would catch up to me -
But sweetheart, I couldn't hold on...
You took your time, went slowly,
Forgot about me in the lead...
And slowly over each and every mile,
I could no longer bring myself to believe...
Now, you're back, with all your love,
Begging for my arms to hold you tight...
Seemingly in oblivion to all the pain;
The cold and restless nights...
I cannot let you take a hold of me,
Just to make me cry again...
I'm stronger than I used to be,
We've reached our journey's end.
