Dying For A Love That Could Have Been (Part I: I Died For Love)

by DaddysLittleDefect   May 29, 2006

A phone call nearing midnight
awoke him from his sleep.
A voice so choked with tears,
that it could barely speak.

He jumped up without a thought
and booked it for the door.
Hands barely on the wheel
when the pedal hit the floor.

He sped the familiar route
without the slightest care,
and when he pulled onto the block
he saw just what he'd feared.

The sight made his throat close up,
the house he'd often seen.
An ambulance and two cop cars
completed the crime scene.

He panicked at the front door,
not sure on where to go.
Faint light filled the hallway,
a path he could follow.

It led him to the bathroom
with the door slightly ajar.
The light spilling from within
was little but a bar.

As the world grew silent
he put his eye up to the crack.
After checking it was empty,
a small push swung it back.

That's when he saw his secret crush,
the only girl he'd ever loved.
He was looking at his best friend
lying in the tub.

A movie trailer image
of the water that turned red,
the color of a dying rose
from all the blood she bled.

That moment the world returned
and he fell down to his knees.
The silence in that bathroom
was enough to make him scream.

There was a letter on the wall
and as his eyes fell on the note,
he saw then that at the top
it was his name she had wrote.

He pulled it down with one hand
and crawled back to the door.
He braced himself against it,
and read it on the floor.

"These words are hard to say,
but hearts are often broken
by words left unspoken
so I guess I'll find a way.

How can I get this off my chest?
What I felt for you.
Since you didn't feel it too,
it's much harder to confess

Every time you would call me "Hun"
I thought I was close.
But I finally know
you never saw me as "the one."

I thought that I'd love you to death
but instead it was mine.
A just way to die
with you name on my last breath.

Explain this for me, OK?
What happens to your soul
when your heart gets broke,
the words I myself can't say.

Please help the truth to rise above,
so I may rest in peace.
Just as long as you believe
and just you know: I died for love."

    Okay. I frikken love this.
The opening is powerful with each stanza thereafter just getting better and better.
The emotion in this is overwhelming.
The imagery you painted is breathtaking, it was like I could see hear and feel everything that was happening.
I was thrown off by the fact that some parts rhymed and some didn't, but on the whole, this is amazingly done.

The thing I admire most about your poems is the fact that the flow is very good. Good flow makes me want to read on.
Also the storylines are another thing that attracts me to wanting to read more of your poems.
It's hard to keep me interested in reading on, but you manage to do that pretty well. So coming from me this is a big compliment.
    Moving to reading part 2...

Wow, this poem is so sad. I've felt like this many times. it brought tears to my eyes. But that's how it really is this day in age, people don't take love the way they should and make fun of it. You brought all the emotions together beautifully. I loved it. 5/5
