Despair

by Samantha Compton   May 29, 2006

I sit here in the darkness,
Perceiving that I am alone,
But I am not alone,
For my despair is haunting me.

It stands over me,
Breathing cold, frigid air
Down my fragil neck,
Giving my sudden chills.

It coaxed me to act drastically
In all my recklessness,
It beats a loud, confusing drum
Somewhere far inside my head.

It makes me think of dreadful things,
And all that I might lose,
And I can never be the same.
It leaves it's solemn footprint
Upon my burdened soul,
And then it leaves me
To dwell in my helplessness.
